Canon Medical Arena to Host “Meet the Funders” Event Supporting Local Communities

The Canon Medical Arena is set to host a special community-focused event this month, bringing together charities, community groups and social enterprises from across South Yorkshire with key funding organisations.

Thursday 16th April “Meet the Funders” will take place as a free drop-in event, delivered in partnership with Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park and South Yorkshire's Community Foundation, offering attendees a valuable opportunity to connect directly with organisations that can help bring their ideas to life.

Connecting Communities with Funding Opportunities

The event will welcome representatives from a range of major funding bodies, including:

  • Sheffield Legacy Fund

  • South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation

  • South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau

  • Yorkshire Sport Foundation

  • The Co-op Foundation

  • Key Fund

Attendees will be able to engage in informal conversations, explore funding opportunities, and gain practical advice on how to access financial support for their projects.

Supporting Grassroots Impact

A key focus of the event will be the Sheffield Legacy Fund, which supports grassroots organisations within a three-mile radius of Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.

Grants of up to £1,000 are available to community groups working on projects that:

  • Improve physical and mental health

  • Promote wellbeing

  • Reduce social isolation

The fund, administered by South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation, has already made a meaningful impact across the region and continues to support initiatives that strengthen local communities.

Expert Advice and Guidance

In addition to meeting funders, attendees will also have access to expert guidance from funding specialists, including the South Yorkshire Funding Advice Bureau (SYFAB), who will be on hand to provide tailored advice and support.

The event is designed to be accessible, informal and highly valuable for organisations at all stages — whether they are just starting out or looking to expand existing projects.

A Hub for Community Collaboration

Hosting “Meet the Funders” reflects the Canon Medical Arena’s ongoing commitment to supporting community engagement and collaboration across Sheffield.

Claire Fretwell, Operations Manager at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, said:

“We’re delighted to host our second Meet the Funders event and, once again, we’re expecting a fantastic response. These events are a great way to connect with local groups and show how the Sheffield Legacy Fund can help them take their ideas to the next level.”

Register Your Place

The event is free to attend, with charities, community groups and social enterprises encouraged to drop in and take advantage of this unique opportunity.
